Bloemfontein’s Dean Burmester has bounced right back on the Challenge Tour in Europe by finishing in second at the Aegean Airlanes Challenge Tour at Beckenbauer Course in Bad Griesbach, Germany.
The soon to be first-time dad fired a final round of one over par 73 yesterday to finish on 11 under par for the four rounds and in the process earned over R250000,00.
Portugal’s Ricardo Gouveia scored 15 under par to win the tournament.
Meanwhile, in France, Burmester's fellow South African, Jaco van Zyl earned his spot in the 144th Open Championship next week by finishing third at Alstom Open de France at Le Golf National.
Van Zyl carded a final round of one over par 73 to finish the tournament on 8 under.
Van Zyl who led the field going into the final round said he was a bit disappointed with his efforts on day four, but was happy at securing his place at the iconic event at the home of golf.
"It’s great. I played really, really nicely and securing a spot in The Open means a lot to me. It’s always great to be at St Andrews and the history is just absolutely phenomenal.
"Playing it in The Open is just going to mean so much more. It’s all going to be pretty new. I played in the US Open a couple of years ago but this is a very different feel and I am just looking forward to it.
The 144th Open Championship at the home of golf, St Andrews tees-off on 16 July.
