Burmester, Van der Spuy and Mowat go head-to-head | News Article

An exciting finish is expected this afternoon at the Sun Windmill Challenge on the Sunshine Tour being played at the Bloemfontein Golf Club.

Rouke van der Spuy leads the field going into the final round on 12 under par after firing a second round of seven under par 65 yesterday.

The biggest mover, however, was Bloemfontein’s Dean Burmester who moved up to 11 under par after sinking nine birdies and a bogey for a round of eight under par 64.

Calllum Mowat is tied in second on 11 under par with Burmester after carding a round of 1 under par 71.

Mowat sunk five birdies and an eagle, but also scored two bogeys and two double bogeys to hurt his round.

Mowat told OFM Sport that he thinks Burmester is the man to beat today.

“Dean is a very good player, he’s done very well this year and I guess he is the guy to chase.

“It’s a pity about my finishing three holes today. A double drop 16, a double drop 17…I would have had a three shot lead.

“One shot behind is not bad, I’m still up there. I shot 62 in the first round, I will just take that into account and hopefully repeat that tomorrow.

Makhetha Mazibuko is currently in tied 8th on 7 under par, while former Proteas all-rounder, Johan van der Wath, has made the cut and is on one under par.
