Gym time savers | News Article

Some top tips for saving time at the gym.

So you've got your fitness regime nailed, working out at least three times a week and never missing a gym sesh. But do you still find yourself clock watching as you pound the treadmill, willing the minutes to tick down? Well, you're not alone. We've got top timesaving tips for all those who want to shave a few precious minutes off sweating it out at the gym.

Multiply your muscle engagement

Hitting more than one muscle group at a time could see you halving your routine by getting your whole body engaged with the exercise at hand. Squats work you back, legs and abs, while adding press-ups to your fitness plan will work your chest, triceps and shoulders. Take some time off the equipment and get to the mat section to speed up workouts.

Embrace drop sets

Instead of taking a breather between sets when using weights, decrease the load after each set and get straight back into it. Once you've finished the second set, again lower the weight and go for round three. Don't get slack and let your technique waver though. Using drop sets, you can do your usual weight routine in half the time.

Stretch at home

Stretching after exercise is vital and your body will not thank you if you skip this important step. If you're really pushed for time once you finish your workout, head home and stretch your body there instead.

Don't waste active recovery time

Those minutes in between exercises are for you to catch your breath, but many of us have a quick Facebook check or chat with our gym buddy. If you're looking to save time, then cut this out! Of course, take time to breathe before moving on to your next machine, but try and add in a minute of intense exercise too. 60 seconds of jump rope, spinning or burpees will up your calorie burn without adding any extra time. You'll even be able to knock off early if you incorporate a few extra exercises.
