Bloodhound technicians get model car kit for Christmas─── 12:27 Fri, 02 Jan 2015
London - Technicians in the United Kingdom got a model car kit with a difference for Christmas this year after Santa dropped off the 3500 components that now need to be assembled into the 1609km/hour Bloodhound Supersonic Car (SSC).
Spokesperson Jules Tipler said in a statement one hundred and ten man-years have been invested in the design, build and manufacture of the Bloodhound SSC, which will be trying to beat the current land speed record of 763mph at Hakskeen Pan in the Northern Cape in 2015.
The kit includes a Rolls-Royce EJ200 jet engine, Nammo hybrid rockets, a 550bhp (break horse power) Supercharged Jaguar V8, as well as 22,500 aerospace-grade rivets, driver Andy Green and assembly instructions.

Bloodhound SSC is currently being assembled at the Technical Centre in Bristol, UK, and will undergo runway testing in the UK before the team is deployed to South Africa later in the year to begin high speed testing with the target of reaching 800 mph (1,287 km/h).
The main goal of reaching 1000 miles per hour, or 1609km/h is scheduled to happen in the Kalahari in 2016.
