SA's favourite bird, the Cape Robin-Chat─── 11:46 Mon, 09 Mar 2015
Johannesburg - During the past three months, in an online poll, almost 10 000 people voted for their favourite bird.
Birdlife South Africa's CEO, Mark Anderson says the Cape Robin-Chat, a popular garden bird, raked in 11.5 percent of the votes. The other favourite birds, in order of popularity, were the Cape Parrot, African Fish-Eagle, Woodland Kingfisher and African Penguin.
The Marabou Stork, perhaps not our country’s prettiest bird, only received nine votes.
BirdLife SA shortlisted 52 bird species, of the country’s incredible 846, for this poll.
A number of celebrities, sportspeople and organisations campaigned for their favourite birds.
