Six men in court for hijacking minibus taxi in NW | News Article

Brits - Six men accused of hijacking a minibus taxi appeared in the Brits Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Their case was postponed to July 9 for formal bail application and legal representation. Only one of them had applied to be represented by the Legal Aid and the other five told the court they too wanted to be represented by the Legal Aid.

Kabelo Moyo, 26, Simon Rampa, 30, Freddy Motlhako, 23, Thabang Rasemate, 23, Gideon Matloga , 24, and Sello Mathibe , 31, allegedly hijacked the taxi in Majakaneng near Brits on June 6.

They were arrested in Buffelspoort near Brits few hours after they allegedly hijacked the vehicle.

One of the men allegedly hired the minibus from the driver. The driver was then allegedly ordered to go to Brits to collect five other men. He was directed to drive to nearby bushes where they allegedly threatened him with knives and ordered him out of the taxi. They then drove-off in it.

The driver reported the incident at the Mooinooi police station. A search operation was conducted and the vehicle was found parked at Buffelspoort.
