Tutu hospitalised with 'persistent' infection─── 05:14 Wed, 15 Jul 2015
Cape Town - Archbishop Desmond Tutu was hospitalised on Tuesday for a persistent infection, his foundation said in a statement.
Tutu was reportedly being treated in a Cape Town hospital.
The foundation did not give details about his illness but Tutu's daughter, Reverend Canon Mpho Tutu said they hoped he will "be able to return home in a day or two".
Mpho Tutu officiated at her parent's renewal of their wedding vows less than two weeks ago as they celebrated 60 years of marriage.
While the 83-year-old Tutu appears to be in good health, he has battled prostate cancer for more than a decade.
In December last year, he cancelled an appearance at the launch of his legacy foundation project and handover of a children’s playroom at Tygerberg Hospital.
At the time, it was reported that Tutu had to undergo a course of new medication to manage the disease.
