FS Education upset over HRC allegations─── THANDI XABA 13:41 Fri, 31 Jul 2015
Bloemfontein - The Free State Department of Education is dismayed and upset by the manner in which the Human Rights Commission (HRC) has handled reports of former Wilgehof Primary School teacher, Lenard Mackay.
Spokesperson Howard Ndaba says the HRC issued a statement with inaccuracies and wrongly accused the department of failing to deal with racism in the province's public schools.
Ndaba says MacKay’s recent employment at Bloemfontein's Dr CF Visser Primary School was done so by the School Governing Body (SGB).
He adds the department is firmly dealing with racism issues in schools.
MacKay was found guilty of racism and hate speech two years ago, after complaints were laid against him for calling some Wilgehof learners monkeys and the k-word.
