Cape Town - Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu underwent a "small investigative procedure" on Friday night and doctors are satisfied with his progress.
In a statement from the Desmond and Leah Tutu foundation on Saturday, his daughter Reverend Mpho Canon Tutu said the procedure was to determine the status of an infection Tutu has been battling to shake off for weeks.
"His medical team pronounced themselves satisfied with the progress of his antibiotic treatment.
"Although the cancer, itself, was under control, the infection was a consequence of past treatment that the Archbishop had received for prostate cancer."He would remain in hospital for further observation and treatment for another few days.She thanked everyone across the world for their prayers over the past few weeks.The 83-year-old was readmitted to hospital a week after he was discharged after expressing renewed discomfort.
