FS HRC disappointed by Maluti-a-Phofung mayor's no show─── REFILWE GAESWE 05:52 Wed, 02 Sep 2015
Bloemfontein - The Human Rights Commission in the Free State say they are extremely disappointed that the Maluti-a-Phofung mayor and municipal manager did not show up when the commission visited Qwaqwa yesterday.
HRC’s provincial head Buang Jones says it is clear that these officials don’t respect the commission and have treated them with disdain from the onset.
The HRC visited Qwaqwa to ascertain what has been done after hundreds of people were evicted from their homes in June last year.
Jones says it is concerning that the municipal leadership is not fulfilling their constitutional obligations. He says they are concerned that none of the recommendations they had made were implemented.
Jones says delegates from Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality and Department of Cooperative Governance, Traditional Affairs and Human Settlements have agreed that they will do their best to adhere to the commissions’ findings and time bound plan.
