Odendaalsrus residents fighting for land | News Article

Odendaalsrus - More than a hundred residents in Odendaalsrus are demanding to return to their original location, Marobe, where they were forcefully removed by the apartheid government 60 years ago.

They say they are unhappy about how things have been handled since 2006, as they were promised compensation of R40 000, which has not yet materialised.

One of the affected people, 65 year old Kedi Moleko, says she’d rather return to her original location, since she is not being compensated as promised.

The Free State rural development department has meanwhile told OFM News that they have been struggling to get hold of the beneficiaries. Individuals who stand to benefit from this agreement are urged to contact the department at 051-430-0444.
