Ireland win Brisbane humdinger | News Article

Ireland has made it two from two when they beat the United Arab Emirates by 2 wickets earlier today in a nail-biter at the Cricket World Cup.

The side from the Gulf State posted a formidable 278 for 9 after being asked to bat first by the Irish.

Shaiman Anwar was the start with the bat in scoring 106 to lead the Hawks of Quraish to the score.

The Irish got off to a very slow start with the bat and gradually accelerated their run rate to reach the required target with just 4 balls to spare.

Wicketkeeper batsman, Gary Wilson who top scored for the side with 80 said that this match was close, but they knew that they could chase down the total.

"Look, it was obviously closer than we wanted it to be, definitely. But I said earlier that we've been in this position before at a World Cup, big tournament, big stage, and chased down totals before, and I think that really stood us in good stead," said Wilson.

"We knew that if a couple of us were there until close to the end that we had a pretty good shot at winning," he added.

Tomorrow morning Scotland take on Afghanistan in Dunedin, while Sri Lanka face their subcontinent rivals Bangladesh in Melbourne.
