Chicken talks critical to Agoa─── SABRINA DEAN 13:30 Fri, 17 Apr 2015
Bloemfontein - The next few weeks are critical in terms of finding a “sweet-spot” to ensure South African exporters can still benefit from inclusion in the USA’s Africa Growth Opportunity Act, also known as Agoa.
Agbiz manager of international trade and investment intelligence, Tinashe Kapuya, says the biggest stumbling block to an Agoa extension hinges on the outcome of negotiations between the SA Poultry Association and the USA Poultry and Egg Export Council.
The Americans want the removal of anti-dumping measures, while South African chicken producers say this will bring the local industry to its knees:

According to Agbiz, the combined value of Agoa to SA’s agricultural industry is estimated at R3,7-billion, with other sectors also set to lose out should the Agoa extension be blocked.
