BKB has tenth largest Solar PV installation in SA─── 17:52 Fri, 29 May 2015
Bloemfontein - A South African wool handling company has unveiled the tenth largest solar photovoltaic system in South Africa in a bid to introduce clean energy for the classing, handling and pressing of natural fibres.
BKB said in a statement the R8-million roof-mounted solar panel installation on its warehouse in Port Elizabeth covers a total surface area of 3 400 square metres.
BKB spokesperson Jacobus le Roux said the installation is good for the eco credentials of the SA wool and mohair industry, adding that it will also help offset the company’s carbon footprint.
The solar array goes online in June and will generate 40% of the facility’s electricity needs through a generation capacity of 750,000kWh per year – enough to continuously power 200 average-sized households.
