VKB expands further into value chain with wheat mill investment | News Article

Bloemfontein - The VKB Group has concluded a transaction worth hundreds of millions of Rand that will see it take majority ownership of the Kromdraai Best Milling wheat processing complex in Frankfort.

Group Managing Director Koos van Rensburg says the acquisition forms part of VKB’s strategic vision to invest in the value chain:

Van Rensburg says the addition of wheat to the existing VKB package, which includes a soya bean press, poultry division and maize mills producing products for both human and animal consumption, made good business sense and completes the circle of offerings in the region.

Commenting on the steady decline in wheat production in SA, Van Rensburg says VKB is hopeful that the fact that the mills are becoming part of the VKB group will stimulate wheat production in the region. He says there is growing consumer demand for wheat products, adding the group is confident that any local wheat shortfall will be buffered by imported wheat.
