Stock thieves arrested thanks to CCTV footage | News Article

Bloemfontein - A Northern Cape farmer’s decision to use a surveillance camera to monitor his grazing fields has led to the arrest of two stock theft suspects.

Police spokesperson Olebogeng Tawana says the 32 and 49 year-old suspects were arrested at their homes in Campbell after being identified through CCTV footage.
He says the suspects allegedly chased a farmer’s goats into a kraal where they slaughtered two of them.

Tawana says when the farmer noticed two of his goats were missing, he checked the surveillance footage and reported the matter to police. During analysis of the footage, police were able to identify the suspects who were later arrested at their homes. He says police also recovered meat in the suspects’ fridges believed to be that of the stolen goats.

Tawana says investigators will also try to determine if the suspects can be linked to other stock theft cases.

He says they are scheduled to appear in the Douglas Magistrate’s Court on a charge of stock theft on Monday, May 25.
