Pretoria - The World Organisation for Animal Health, also known as the OIE, is hosting its regional conference in South Africa next week.
The conference is being presented under the theme: “The role of veterinary para-professionals in Africa”.
According to the online event description, this is the first conference dealing with veterinary para-professionals, or VPPs, at a continental scale, with the aim to improve the quality of field work in Africa.
The OIE describes a VPP as a person authorised by the veterinary statutory body to carry out certain designated tasks. These include animal health technologists, laboratory animal technologists, horse farriers and/or equine dental technicians, community-based animal health workers, vaccinators, meat inspectors / food inspectors and more.
The conference takes place at St George Hotel and Conference Centre in Pretoria from October 13 to 15.
