Sasolburg - The 140 dismissed Metsimaholo Municipality employees have the right to contest the legality of their dismissal.
Municipality spokesperson Gino Alberts says the strike in Sasolburg, which has been underway for two months, is illegal.
The SAMWU members disagree, saying the municipality has failed to heed complaints about the filling of vacant posts.
Alberts says municipal management has an open door policy.
Metsimaholo has recently been hit by a number of strikes and service delivery protests.
