Welkom- Free State Health MEC Benny Malakoane is expected to appear in the Welkom Magistrate’s Court today in connection with corruption charges dating back to his tenure as Matjhabeng municipal manager.
Malakoane last year handed himself over to Hawks in connection with fraud and corruption charges to the tune of R13-million. The case relates to alleged contravention of the Municipal Finance Management Act while Malakoane was municipal manager between 2007 and 2010.
His co-accused include Matjhabeng CFO Louis de Bruin, Malakoane’s former PA Leona Nel and three company directors. Hawks spokesperson Paul Ramoloko previously told OFM News Malakoane is accused of irregularly awarding a tender for the supply and installation of photocopy machines and telephone lines to the municipality.
The case was postponed earlier this month because Malakoane was scheduled to depart the country to attend an international HIV/Aids conference in Australia.
