Mahikeng - Over 5000 people took part in a protest march in Mahikeng today in solidarity with Palestine to condemn the oppression against them by Israel.
The ANC in North West and a local non-profit organisation, Conveyors of Hope handed over a memorandum to a Government representative. Provincial ANC spokesperson Oupa Matla says they support Palestine's application for full membership of the UN and have pledged its solidarity with the Palestinians in line with the ANC's beliefs.
Meanwhile Israel yesterday vowed to keep its troops in Gaza until they finish destroying a network of cross-border tunnels, despite sharp UN and US criticism over the Palestinian death toll.
One of the listed requests in the memorandum is a call on the Israeli government to release all political prisoners, to immediately cease the expansion of settlements in the West Bank and to stop the wanton and consistent attacks on Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.

The ANC calls on all South Africans to support the programmes and campaigns of the Palestinian civil society which seek to put pressure on Israel to engage with the Palestinian people to reach a just solution.
