Public Works processing successful Kuruman road tenderer─── OWEN KOCK 11:25 Mon, 01 Sep 2014
Kuruman - The Northern Cape department of public works is busy with the adjudication process regarding the awarding of a tender for construction of a road in Kuruman, which has seen schools in the area closed for more than two months.
Violent protests erupted over a section of the road, which the community wants tarred, and forced the closure of over 50 schools in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district municipality.
The Joe Morolong Road Forum alleges they were promised the road would be tarred more than two years ago, but nothing has happened in the now infamous district.
The tender process closed on July 18 this year, and according to public works’ Crystal Robertson, they should make an announcement on the successful tenderer soon.
Basic education minister Angie Motshekga visited the district last week, but no headway was made in resolving the situation.
