Rustenburg - More than 80 subsistence goat farmers in North West are receiving training in livestock management at the Pella Village in Rustenburg today.
This forms part of a workshop by the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) to assist farmers in improving productivity, production, competitiveness and sustainability of their livestock systems.
Acting manager at the ARC’s Biotechology Platform, Farai Muchadeyi, says feedback on research conducted since last year will be given during the workshop.
Muchadeyi says it is also important that farmers realise the importance of keeping locally adapted goat populations for improved production.

Indigenous goat genetic resources in the country have become severely under threat of extinction because of the extensive and random distribution of exotic breeds.
