Griekwastad appeal filed at lunchtime today─── SABRINA DEAN 15:36 Tue, 02 Sep 2014
Kimberley - It has been confirmed that attorney Riaan Bode, on behalf of Don Steenkamp, has served notice of appeal of sentence and conviction at the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions of the Northern Cape.
Proof of service has been issued and the notice of appeal was subsequently served on the Registrar of the Northern Cape High Court between 12:00 and 13:00 today.
Steenkamp was earlier this year convicted of the murders of his parents, Deon and Christel Steenkamp, as well as his fourteen-year-old sister Marthella on their farm Naauwhoek outside Griekwastad in April 2012. He was also found guilty of raping Marthella and defeating the ends of justice.
Northern Cape Judge President Frans Kgomo last month handed down sentence of 20 years for each of the three murders, 12 years for the rape and four years for defeating the ends of justice, all to run concurrently.
Steenkamp is currently incarcerated in the youth section of the Kimberley Prison.
