FS residents urged to attend Heritage Day celebration in Ficksburg | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Free State government says this year's theme for Heritage Day encourages South Africans to tell their stories as part of celebrating democracy.

The theme is “Celebrating 20 Years of Democracy: Tell Your Story that Moves South Africa Forward”.

Free State MEC for sports, arts, culture and recreation Mathabo Leeto says South Africa has a story of struggle, victory and a commitment to work together to foster nation building and social cohesion.

Leeto says Heritage Month is an opportunity to remind the nation of the country’s rich heritage through oral history narrations, exhibitions, poetry, music and dance.

She says the various activities will help encourage a sense of common belonging and a shared history among South Africans.
Free State communities are urged to attend the provincial Heritage Day celebration in Ficksburg tomorrow dressed in their traditional attire.

Leeto says the Free State Heritage Day celebration will be categorized by the viewing of Ditema houses, horse riders, majorettes, poetry, traditional music, messages from political principals and traditional leadership as well as exhibitions, amongst others.
