• 1967: Edward Engenas Lekganyane (first known as Talane Reuben), leader of the Zion Christian Church the Star with large support in urban areas, dies in Moria, Pietersburg district.
• 1986: The company, IBM, re-forms in South Africa
• 1987: As a result of a crash on most of the world's stock exchanges, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange overall index falls 328 points, a loss of 11,7% of the overall index, or R43-billion.
• 1990: The first Apple Day, is held in Covent Garden, London.
• 2003: Veteran French war journalist Jean Helene is shot dead in cold blood in Abidjan in the Ivory Coast by a police officer.

• 1884: Johan Bernard Zulch Keet, SA musician and leader of the Asaf choir in Johannesburg, is born.
• 1975: Elton John given a star in Hollywood.

• 1997: Elton John's tribute to Diana, Princess of wales, breaks world record, 318 million dist.
• 2001: "United We Stand" benefit concert for September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks victims, held at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC. Event organized and headlined by Michael Jackson, also featuring pop stars Aerosmith, Mariah Carey, The Backstreet Boys, and others.
