NW Place of safety receives arrear subsidies | News Article

Rustenburg - The Môrester Place of Safety for children in Rustenburg has received the subsidies of more than R167 000 the Department of Social Development owed it following am extended court battle.

This follows after the department failed to forward state subsidies to Môrester since 2013, nor provided feedback to the organisation about its application for re-registration as a place of safety.

After disregarding an earlier court order, the Head of the Department of Social Development in North West was convicted of contempt of court last month.

The prison sentence of 30 days was suspended for 15 days.

Danie Brink, executive director of Helping Hand who represented Môrester, is thrilled at the latest developments.
