NC targets 80% matric pass rate─── OWEN KOCK 05:53 Thu, 23 Oct 2014
Kimberley - The Northern Cape will target an 80% matric pass rate for 2014.
Education department spokesperson, Sydney Stander, expressed confidence that the province's matriculants, some of whom missed three months of schooling due to violent protests, can achieve the target.
The province achieved a 74.1% past rate last year.
Stander says matriculants in the province have taken up the challenge put to them by Education MEC Grizelda Cjiekella–Lecholo, at the beginning of the year.
More than 450 matrics in the Kuruman area were prevented from attending school between June and September over violent protests over a piece of road the community wants tarred.
