'Adopt an ECD' aims to assist in poor communities | News Article

Bloemfontein - Manstopa municipality in Thabo Mofutsanynane District in the Eastern Free State has the most impoverished Early Childhood Development (ECD) facilities.

This was revealed at the launch of “Adopt an ECD Campaign” at a breakfast meeting in Bloemfontein on Thursday.

Itumeleng Kwenane, Free State Manager of the National Development Agency (NDA), says they identified 14 impoverished ECD facilities in Mantsopa.

The national campaign was conceptualised and headed by Minister of Social Development Bathabile Dlamini together with the NDA board, and provincially headed by MEC of Social Development Sisi Ntombela. Its purpose is to facilitate and create awareness about the needs in ECD education. The role players are from national, provincial and local government, as well as business.

The primary objectives of the campaign are to mobilise government, the private sector, local and international donors to increase resource flows to the ECD sector as well as to identify and profile ECD sites in pre-determined poor communities to access financial and non-financial resources to improve the overall quality of ECD provision. The NDA website is http://www.nda.org.za/
