Bloemfontein - Gangsterism has been dramatically reduced in the Free State.
According to MEC for Roads, Police and Transport, Butana Komphela, they have managed to curb the high rate of gangsterism in the western Free State, by holding discussions with different gang members, and involving local churches and parents.
Komphela says there were 47 gangs in Odendaalsrus and police managed to reduce this number to four. In Bothaville gangs were brought down from 24 to three.
Komphela explains that they have been visiting various towns to encourage gang members to change their lifestyle.
The MEC says most gangs originate from the twenty-seven and twenty-six gangs in prisons.
