Windmill handed petition over fireworks─── 16:42 Fri, 31 Oct 2014
Bloemfontein - Animal rights activists from Bloemfontein handed over a petition to the Windmill Casino this morning, regarding their concerns over the inclusion of fireworks during the casino’s annual birthday celebrations tomorrow.
One of the group’s representatives, Alta Jooste, says over 2 000 residents signed the petition.
She says the casino’s use of fireworks causes horrific injuries to animals nearby and even death, either through injury or by running into traffic or fleeing in panic and getting lost.
She says they proposed the use of a laser light show as an alternative to fireworks.
Fireworks will be used in tomorrow’s celebrations, but Jooste says they hope alternative options will be used in years to come.
