NW police close to cracking card cloning syndicate | News Article

Rustenburg - Police in North West believe that they are close to cracking a card cloning syndicate after two suspected fraudsters were arrested in Rustenburg on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Sabata Mokgwabone says the arrests came after police were alerted about a suspicious looking African female who allegedly planned to purchase groceries at Pick n Pay using a cloned card.

Gosego Mosiane (38) was searched and found in possession of 20 cloned cards.

Further investigation led to the arrest of the second suspect at a filling station near Waterfall Mall.

Steve Ajala (40), a Nigerian national, believed to be mastermind behind the gang, was found with receipts for items bought at various retail shops using cloned cards. The suspects were driving a blue VW Polo with Gauteng registration plate numbers.

The suspects, Mosiane and Ajala appeared in Rustenburg Magistrates’ Court on Thursday on charges of possession of suspected stolen property and fraud.

Police are appealing to local business owners who have fallen prey to the gang to come forward and report cases.
