FS and NC correctional centres 116% overcrowded─── OWEN KOCK 16:10 Thu, 27 Nov 2014
Bloemfontein - Correctional centres in the Free State and Northern Cape are 116% overcrowded, but remains the region with the least overcrowding in the country.
This, according to the Regional Commissioner Subashini Moodley.
She spoke to OFM News shortly after the launch of Operation Vala, one of the department of corrections’ security highlights of the year, where movement from outside correctional centres are minimized and offenders contained.
Moodley says overcrowding is a national challenge, and it is further fuelled by detainees awaiting trial.
