Bloemfontein - The ANC won 26 of the 31 municipal wards contested in Wednesday’s by-elections around the country.

One by-election took place in Upington - the Khai Gariep  Municipality in the Northern Cape.
 
The new ward councillor in Ward six is Willem Afrikaner of the ANC.
 
According to Nokhaya Mjila, speaker of the ZF Mgcawu District Municipality, Afrikaner will be inaugurated on December 3.
 
Mjila says the ANC  won with 1 795 votes, Congress of the People got 66 votes and an independent team received 211 votes.
 
Meanwhile, the ANC’s Matshidiso Mofokeng retained the seat in the Free State at Ward seven in Maluti-a-Phofung Municipality, Qwa-Qwa.
 
In North West, ANC received twelve of the sixteen seats based at Ngaka Modiri Molema District Council, while seat each went to the African Independent Congress, Democratic Alliance, Economic Freedom Fighters and United Christian Democratic Party.
