MTN donates R1 million towards medical equipment for FS Health | News Article

Bloemfontein - MTN SA Foundation, in partnership with the Free State Department of Health, has today donated medical equipment worth R1 million in two districts in the Free State Province – Lejweleputswa and Xhariep.

The equipment handover took place at Boithusong Clinic in Odendaalsrus.

The donation forms part of MTN SA Foundation’s two-year commitment – which ends in December 2016 – to roll out healthcare programmes in the province.

Over 657 019 residents in the Lejweleputswa district and 146 259 in the Xhariep will benefit from the medical equipment donated by MTN SA Foundation.

“The well-being of a community is inextricably linked to the health of its people, said Kusile Mtunzi-Hairwadzi, General Manager of the MTN SA Foundation.

“Without good health, residents from these two districts will not be able to enjoy the benefits of improved education and economic opportunities the MTN SA Foundation is committed to developing – not only in the Free State Province but nationwide.”

Over the years, MTN SA Foundation’s health strategy has been aimed at promoting healthy communities by focusing on prevention, early detection, and referral. “To meet this objective, we committed ourselves to undertake a number of initiatives including the Health Screening programme in partnership with local governments and non-profit organisations,” Mtunzi-Hairwadzi said.

MTN SA Foundation’s overarching social investment mandate is to connect communities for greater self-reliance. It does so through a focus on ICT in education and community programmes.
