Protect yourself when handling sick, dead animals - NC Govt─── 14:16 Fri, 19 Dec 2014
Bloemfontein - The Northern Cape Department of Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development, is calling on farmers, farmers workers and community members to use protective clothing such as gloves, mask, and goggles at all time when handling sick and dead animals.
Communications Officer, Phemelo Manankong, says this appeal to communities is just a precautionary measure during the festive season.
Manankong says the community is also advised not to slaughter or eat meat from sick or dead animals and precautions must be taken to ensure hygienic handling of meat.
He says people who handled or devoured sick animals must contact their nearest health facilities.
Manankong also reminds communities that it is against the law to buy meat from animals slaughtered at any places other than at registered abattoirs.
