Consumer credit improves slightly─── THANDI XABA 09:47 Sat, 24 Jan 2015
Bloemfontein - It is the first time the consumer credit index is above 50 in three years.
This follows the consumer credit health slightly improving in the last four months of last year in the midst of slower increases in food prices and a fall in fuel costs.
Bloemfontein registered debt councillor Werner Van der Walt says despite the slow improvement of the consumer credit index (CCI), consumers ought to remain cautious with their finances and budgets.
The interest rates were left unchanged by Reserve Bank in November and reports revealed by the credit and information company TransUnion indicates the CCI rose from 49.9 to a preliminary 50.1 during the last quarter of last year.
To which Van De Walt urges in order for consumers to avoid further debt they should use facilities like debt counsellors to ensure the credit index remains in a positive bracket.
