DA want answers re international travels | News Article

Bloemfontein - The DA in the Free State say it is vital that questions to Legislature regarding international trips undertaken by Premier Ace Magashule and other delegates from provincial departments and municipalities are answered.

The DA’s Roy Jankielsohn says based on Magashule's response to questions raised by the party, projections show almost R39 million has been spent on international trips at the expense of taxpayers.

According to him R18 million was spent on international trips by officials while a total of 26 overseas trips were undertaken. He says Magashule can only account for the expenditure of 16 of these trips.

Jankielsohn adds it is important to establish whether any other trips were undertaken and whether the province benefited.

Jankielsohn says Magashule is currently in Cuba leading a 72 person delegation for 15 days, at a total extrapolated cost of R14.1 million.

He says these unaccounted for trips are unacceptable because the province are R8 billion in debt which impacts on government’s basic service delivery.
