International relations a key area for FS government | News Article

Bloemfontein - International relations is one of the key pillars of the Free State government’s service delivery program.

Government spokesperson, Mondli Mvambi, says Operation Hlasela was unveiled in 2009 to upscale service delivery in the province. It includes building and strengthening social economic ties with countries which supported the ANC during the liberation struggle.

Trips undertaken, should however be accounted for.

This comes after the DA raised questions regarding international trips undertaken by Premier Ace Magashule and other delegates from provincial departments and municipalities.

The DA’s projections show almost R39 million has been spent on these trips at the expense of taxpayers. In the previous financial year alone, a total of R18 million was spent on a total of 26 trips of which Magashule can only account for the expenditure of 16.

Mvambi says these international visits are not a waste, neither a holiday.

Mvambi did not want to disclose the total cost of Magashule's current 15 day visit to Cuba, during which he is accompanied by more than 70 delegates.

He says it is against government's security measures to discuss detail around the premier's international visits.
