Motheo protest does not prevent Decade of the Artisan from going ahead─── SABRINA DEAN 12:34 Fri, 30 Jan 2015
Bloemfontein - A protest by disgruntled students who burned tyres in the road outside Motheo TVET College in Bloemfontein this morning has not prevented an event celebrating the Decade of the Artisan from going ahead.
Motheo spokesperson Lame Morubane says Deputy Higher Education Minister Mduduzi Manana is going ahead with the programme, including visits to Centlec, training centres and satellite campuses.
Morubane meanwhile says allegations by the protesting students will be raised with management. He says it is not true, however, that students who qualify for bursaries are not receiving these.
Sixty students started blockading St George’s Street in front of the college with burning tyres around 6am. Intersections at Church and Aliwal streets were gridlocked during peak traffic as a result. The protestors have since dispersed but police continue to monitor the situation.
