Proposed new FS highway set to ease congestion─── OWEN KOCK 17:52 Thu, 26 Feb 2015
Harrismith - Motorists making use of the N3 Van Reenen's Pass, can look forward to a reprieve from high traffic volumes with the proposed new De Beers Expressway.
The expressway will comprise a 99km dual carriageway linking Keeversfontein in KwaZulu-Natal with Warden in the Free State.
According to Sanral spokesperson Vusi Mona, it will provide an alternative which will be faster and safer than Van Reenen’s Pass. Currently between 13 000 and 14 000 vehicles make use of the N3 through Harrismith and Van Reenen daily.
Mona says the number of accidents is constantly on the increase.
No start date for the project is available at this stage, but from start to completion, it's expected to take four years.
