Judgment expected in camp murder case | News Article

Vereeniging - Judgment is expected to be handed down in the Vereeniging Regional Court on Friday in the trial of Alex de Koker and Michael Erasmus over the death of a 15-year-old boy.

They have been charged with murder, child abuse, and assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, relating to the death of Raymond Buys at the Echo Wild Game Rangers camp in 2011.

Previously, Erasmus testified that De Koker asked him to take the blame for the abuse at the camp.

He denied attacking Buys with a "piele wapper" (a hollow rubber pipe), a spade, and a sickle, but admitted he had punched Buys, kicked him, and had once hit him with a broomstick.

Erasmus argued it was on De Koker's instruction that Buys was abused and that he only ever abused Buys in De Koker's presence.

Lawyers for both the defence and the state submitted their closing arguments on February 19.
