Potch student council chair wants her suspension lifted | News Article

Potchefstroom - The chairperson of the Student Council of the North West University’s Potchefstroom Campus wants her suspension by the university’s Institutional Student Council lifted.

The Potch Student Council says Monica van Schalkwyk, one of four Potch council members on the ISC, has been suspended without a valid reason.

According to their statement, the sole reason given for Van Schalkwyk's suspension was that she "acted outside her mandate".

During an ISC meeting last week, Van Schalkwyk disagreed with Vaal Triangle and Mafikeng Campus ISC members about decision-taking on campus issues. Her fellow ISC members want the power to take decisions regarding all three campuses, and not only the one they represent.

Van Schalkwyk has given the ISC Council till Friday to lift her suspension - if not, she will take legal action.
