Three Bult Retirement Village residents critical after crash | News Article

Bloemfontein - Three residents of the Bult Retirement Village in Bultfontein in the Free State are in a critical condition in Mediclinic Bloemfontein.

This after an accident yesterday, in which a minibus a group from the village were travelling in overturned about 6 km outside Bulftontein.

The residents were on their way back from an outing to Florisbad, near Bloemfontein. Lettie Muller, Daan Minnie, Dinie Aschar and Charlotte Lategan died on the scene.

Hospital spokesperson Amanda Appelgryn says five patients were admitted.

The manager of the village, Gert Bezuidenhout, says Marie Ehlers died in hospital.

According to him the driver and a nurse were also travelling in the minibus that was hit from behind by a bakkie. He says it is alleged that a bakkie, driving behind the minibus, wanted to overtake it but had to slack down to get back behind the minibus to make room for an oncoming truck. In the process of getting back, it clipped the minibus.

A spokesperson for Life Rosepark Hospital in Bloemfontein told OFM News yesterday afternoon that the driver of the minibus, Hendrik Neethling, was already discharged. He sustained a cut wound to the head an injured his shoulder.

The nurse was traumatised but physically unharmed.
