Bloemfontein - It comes as no surprise that interest rates have taken a hike due to inflation deteriorating.
Economist Alex Smith says there are several factors that have contributed to the diminishing inflation rate and if the Rand comes under any more pressure its quite likely the country will see an interest hike come through by the end of this year.
Smith says included in trends that are stoking inflation, is the increase in oil prices, a weakening in the Rand and Eskom raising tariffs.
