FS Health budgets for maintenance of facilities | News Article

Bloemfontein - The Free State department of health is going to address the backlog of maintenance of buildings such as clinics and mortuaries.

This is according to the department’s budget for the 2015/2016 financial year.

The backlog came under the loop after the department of labour issued 80 notices of non-compliance to occupational health and safety regulations at various clinics and mortuaries. This followed after the labour department conducted blitz inspections at 95 centres last month. Provincial chief inspector Nomfundo Douw-Jack said her department found that only 15 had no problem.

The department of labour gave the provincial health department 60 days to comply with occupational health and safety regulations.

More than R596m has been allocated to programme 8 – the health facility management program. The eradication of building, mechanical and electrical construction and maintenance backlog is going to be addressed under this programme.

A project for the upgrading of existing mortuaries along major routes also forms part of the programme.

One of the priorities under this programme is the maintenance and or upgrading of heating and cooling systems in hospitals across the province.
