Community protests continue near Rustenburg─── CHRISTAL-LIZE MULLER 11:44 Tue, 05 May 2015
Rustenburg - Police in North West say service delivery protests in Sondela in Rustenburg continued today after a 47-year-old man and 32-year-old woman were arrested last night on a charge of public violence.
Police spokesperson, Kelebogile Moleko, says community members are allegedly disgruntled over poor water supply in the area. She says at about 20:00 last night a group of people barricaded roads with burning tyres at Zamdela and Meriting.
They also blocked the R510 towards Rustenburg and wanted to enter the city but police prevented them from doing so.
According to Moleko a group of about 200 community members are currently gathered at a petrol station near Meriting. The situation remains tense but police are monitoring the situation.
Moleko says the suspects are expected to appear in the Rustenburg Magistrate's today.
