Nketoana municipality pays R600 000 in bonuses─── 13:22 Mon, 25 May 2015
Bloemfontein - One of the municipalities in the Free State that had its equitable share withheld by National Treasury – Nketoana municipality, which includes Petrus Steyn and Reitz – paid more than R600 000 in performance bonuses.
This is according to a written answer by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Minister Pravin Gordon. He said six municipalities in the province paid these bonuses during the 2013/2014 financial year.
National Treasury withheld the equitable share of more than 50 municipalities countrywide because of their outstanding Eskom and Water Boards Accounts. Some municipalities received their money after they submitted a payment plan that was accepted.
A total of more than R7m was paid to senior municipal managers.
