Bloemfontein - Police are still searching for suspects after a shootout in Twin City Mall in Heidedal, Bloemfontein yesterday.

Police spokesperson Harry Nagel says a police officer was shot in the hand after a group of men in a bakkie, dressed in overalls and balaclavas, robbed a chain store, fleeing with an undisclosed amount of money.

They further robbed a liquor outlet taking several expensive bottles of liquor. Some of the men managed to flee while others were involved in a shoot-out with police responding to the complaint.

Nagel says the police officer will be operated on today.
