FS Human Settlements dept finalises multimillion rand probe─── 07:41 Fri, 19 Jun 2015
Bloemfontein - The Free State department of Human Settlements has put the housing debacle, which cost it R500 million, to rest and has started advertising the posts of officials who were dismissed.
This is according to MEC Olly Mlamleli.
An investigation into irregularities, which involved the buying of building material for contractors, started in July 2012, shortly after Mlamleli's appointment as MEC of the department. The scope of the investigation also included the payment of contractors before their projects had been completed and the manipulation of the subsidy system.
Mlamleli says a total of nine officials, including two chief directors and four directors, were investigated. All the junior officials, both chief directors and three directors were dismissed.
