Sadtu NW threatening to strike over non-payment of salaries─── DANE BEISHEIM 09:26 Sat, 20 Jun 2015
Potchefstroom - The South African Democratic Teachers’ Union (Sadtu) in the North West province has threatened to go on strike if the provincial department of education does not pay the salaries of temporary teachers.
Hundreds of temporary teachers in the province have allegedly not received their salaries, some since the beginning of the year. Others claim they only receive half their wages.
At a meeting on June 12, Sadtu's provincial executive committee took a decision to embark on an industrial action in July in order to express its discontent over the non-payment of salaries.
Education department spokesperson Elias Malindi told OFM News that the department is aware of non-payment to certain teachers, and is looking into the matter to rectify the situation.
